Panasonic 10 issued a press release announced that its component companies Panasonic Corporation Industrial Devices Company has developed a set of with PI membrane (Polyimide film and Polyimide film) as the basic material of PCB production technology, by the production technology can make the most suitable for intelligent mobile phone of multilayer printed circuit board (PCB) "ALIVH (Any Layer Interstitial Via Hole)" becomes thinner, lighter, through which can realize smart phones and other mobile Devices to miniaturization, thin and lightweight requirements. ALIVH Panasonic are research and development of the world's first to achieve full thickness the IVH (Interstitial Via Hole) structure of the multilayer PCB products.

Panasonic will use the new production technology of PCB is called "ALIVH -f", its thickness (8 layer stack PI film) is only 0.37 mm, the current ALIVH product thin about 30%, the weight can reduce about 35%, and by using PI film as basic material, so the aperture (VIA) can reduce about 25% to 100 microns, wiring spacing can reduce about 40% to 30 microns, through which can improve the packing density of the parts, to reduce the PCB area, and reduce the area and thickness) can be used to install the battery space, improve battery capacity of smart phones and other products.

Panasonic said ALIVH -f is scheduled in June (2012) for the sample shipment, in December for mass production. Panasonic and will be in Tokyo on June 13-15 international arena (Tokyo Big Sight) at the JPCA Show Show ALIVH - F.

The asahi newspaper reported, according to Japanese media pointed out that ALIVH -f for PI membrane as the material, so possesses flexible features (flexible), and have extremely thin does not occupy a space character, therefore, is expected to generate can be like a watch to wear in the body of the smart phone.

Wow, this is an impressive development by Panasonic! I just read the press release about their new ALIVH -f technology, and it’s amazing to see how far PCB production has come. Reducing the thickness and weight of the circuit boards by such a large margin is definitely going to be a game-changer for smartphones and other compact devices. The JPCA Show in Tokyo is going to be interesting for sure!
