EIPC and IPC Announce 2014 Workshop
IPC and EIPC are working together to bring educational workshops to Europe in 2014. During April, Dr. Martin Anselm, Universal Instruments Corporation, will present two half-day workshops in the UK and Germany on failure analysis and reliability testing. Dr. Anselm is a frequent lecturer at IPC events and has consistently been rated as one of IPC’s best instructors. Sign up for one or both workshops.
German PCB market February sales figures increased 4.4% year on year–from ZVEI PCB and Electronic Systems
The February sales figures increased 4.4 percent (YoY). YTD, sales figures increased 5.6 percent (compared to the reference period 2013), reports the German industry association ZVEI PCB and Electronic Systems.
The order intake showed an increase of 20.2 percent compared to February 2013; continuing the extraordinary growth from January (+32.4 percent compared to the reference month 2013). Noteworthy is also that February 2014 recorded the highest order intake of the 30 months.
In particular, large companies (< 50 million euros in annual sales) benefited from long‐term framework contracts that were signed.
The book‐to ‐bill ratio reached a value of 1.13.
The number of employees increased by 2.4 percent, with larger companies accounting for nearly 75 percent of those newly created jobs.
IPC Hand Soldering Competition Winner Crowned at National Electronics Week 2014
Twenty competitors showed off their hand soldering skills during an action‐packed IPC hand soldering competition at National Electronics Week (NEW) 2014 in Birmingham, England.
Taking first place with a score of 167 out of a possible 176 was Andrew Smith, Custom Interconnected Ltd. (UK). As the first place winner, Smith took home a cash prize of £300 and earned a spot at the IPC Hand Soldering WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP at IPC APEX EXPO® 2015 in San Diego, Calif.
In second place with a score of 157, Helen Reynolds, Custom Interconnected Ltd., won a cash prize of £200. Mark Smith, CSM Electronics Ltd. (UK) took third place and a cash prize of £100 with a score of 150.
Judging the competition, Jacqueline Mellar, CIT and Mal Maitland, CIS, CIT, both of TRW Systems Ltd. (UK) and Barry Morris, MIT, Advanced Rework Technology Ltd., awarded points based on soldering in accordance with IPC‐A‐610E Class 3 criteria, the speed at which the assembly was produced and the overall functionality of the assembly. “Judges and spectators were able to see the best hand soldering talent in the United Kingdom”, said Lars Wallin, IPC European representative. “Competitors put forth their best workmanship, quality and top speed.
Park Electrochemical Celebrates 60 Years in Business
Park Electrochemical Corp. (PKE) announced that it recently celebrated its 60th Anniversary of being in business. Park was founded by Jerry Shore and Tony Chiesa on March 31, 1954.
The Company was started in a 3,000 square foot factory in Woodside, Queens, New York with five employees. The Company’s first fiscal year’s
revenues were $125,000. Brian Shore, Park’s Chairman and CEO, said, “It is fitting that the Company comes from such humble beginnings. We are so very grateful
to Jerry and Tony for having the courage and conviction to found our Company 60 years ago.”
