Since its inception, Altium has grown from a simple PCB design offering to an all-embracing PCB, FPGA, and MCU embedded systems design environment. This includes the Altium Designer intelligent 3D PCB design solution coupled with the Tasking embedded software development suite.
These days, I can barely keep up with all the news. For example, Altium just announced the release of the latest version (14.2) of Altium Designer. This update offers a wide range of optimizations and enhancements, including things like support for vector graphics in schematics and increases in copper repour speeds from 2X to 20X, depending on the number and complexity of the design's polygon pours.
But wait, there's more. Altium has also announced a brand new Tasking compiler suite based on its Viper VX compiler technology. The Tasking VX development tools are designed for building and debugging embedded applications using C and assembly. Most recently, Altium has announced support for ON Semiconductor Corp.'s LC87 microcontroller family. These eight-bit microcontrollers are widely used for energy-saving products like equipment for healthcare, audio, communication, mobile, and security, as well as home appliances and power tools.
